There's... A lot going on. So much so that the next newsletter is almost ready... And I hadn't shared September's edition here. As always, if you haven't yet, sign up. But before that, we've got one more Pride gig to play and some announcements to make. And before THAT: Dearest Readers, lovely gals, gays, and theys: We love you. You were here at the beginning with us, and we won't ever forget. Sharing All The Feelings with you is what keeps us going. A TALE OF TWO GIGS SOLIDARITY IS A VERB, ACTUALLY A few weeks ago, we booked what felt like a dream gig. An opening slot for a pretty damn huge band coming through Leipzig. A huge leap forward for us in terms of both audience and venue. We had put a lot (and we mean A LOT!) of work into securing this gig. We were thrilled. And then old social media posts of the “doing a racism” variety surfaced… authored by the act we were supposed to open for. As soon as we saw them, it was clear what we had to do, as painful as it would be: Email the promoter and say “we can’t be part of this bill…and this is why." (It was not Ed Sheeran, and also: Riley has been shouting FREE PALESTINE since before that particular shitstorm broke.) It was scary as fuck. This industry is not designed to encourage artists to say no to things. Artists — especially small independent ones like us — know that there are FAR more acts than there are opportunities…and a line of people clamouring to take your place. So the pressure is ALWAYS there to be easy, to be frictionless, to make yourself smaller to fit into someone else’s mold. That is…not who we are. Not as individuals, and not as a band. So we said no. Because it was the right thing to do. Because no opportunity is worth losing what you stand for. In the end, the gig was cancelled. The venue emailed us back and said that they, too, had seen the posts and decided to uninvite the act. An act that is continuing to tour, defending their behavior, and probably not gonna experience all that much in terms of consequences. (To be continued) -

Pride Season is over for this year. Our last outdoors gig for 2026 (probably...) was at @csdstendal at the end of September. It was... A long drive. And there were difficulties. But honestly, playing small town Prides is so goddamn important. We cannot, we will not leave rural areas to the fascists. We exist. And ain't nobody gonna take that away from us. Hey, I'm Ari and I play guitar. I guess I've spent most of my life on the wrong side of the stage. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. First as part of the scene, later as a music journalist and concert photographer. For years, I watched bands through a lens, wrote about music and somehow always found myself somewhere around a stage. At some point, I started playing guitar myself. What began as escapism slowly became a way to express things I often struggle to put into words. I wrote my own songs, started music projects and got into production and sound design. But one wish stayed with me: I wanted to play in a real band. And then The Earrings happened. Before my first rehearsal, I was honestly totally intimidated. I came from very different musical corners and suddenly found myself dealing with barre chords, voicings, clean sounds and guitar roles I had become very good at putting off. 😄 Five weeks later, I was on stage with the band. And somehow, in exactly the place where I expected to be terrified, I felt comfortable. The introverted Ari who constantly wonders whether she's good enough fades into the background a little. Instead, a much cheekier (frech!) version of me shows up, takes up space, makes loud noises and apparently has a lot of fun doing it. I'm still nowhere near where I want to be. Right now, I'm working on music theory, learning the fretboard properly and getting deeper into audio engineering, both in the studio and at FOH. And that's kinda what I love about it. The more I learn, the bigger music somehow becomes. I want to get better, figure out what I sound like within this band, play more stages and write more songs together. But more than anything, I want to keep that feeling from our first proper rehearsal: Fuck. This is what I wanted to do all along! 🩷 -

Here's us, last weekend, at fabulous @csdstendal, performing "You", a collab with the amazing @lunafacious (who also shot this video. Thanks again to the @csd_sachsenanhalt team for having us. Well here's some exciting news! We've got a new gig coming up... IN TWO DAYS! The Flying Earrings are gonna play at @csdstendal and we couldn't be more excited about this! Expect things to get very political... because, as you may have heard, Stendal is in the heart of Sachsen-Anhalt... Where over 40% of people voted for a party that not only does not see us as fully human, but wants to literally eradicate us. But the flipside of this is also true: They are not a majority and they will never, ever win. Tl;dr: fuck that, and the Nazi horse it rode in on. Bit quiet around here lately, eh? Well... I don't know if you noticed, but this timeline isn't super good for trans folx like us. We've got some news coming up over the next few days, but before we dive into that, I wanted to sing the praises of @pizzalableipzig I play and bartend there every Thursday, basically, and it's... Just the best open mic in the city. But more than that, it's community. It's here that we build relationships with other exciting musicians. It's here that we polish new songs.
